Sunday Review Article Hollywood,Bollywood and America
Hi,
The Sunday Review article’ have stopped and I wanted to revive the tradition of those days. This week has been quite hectic and Dental Surgery’ is spreading itself.Impressively after the initial hiatus with UK and the confusion we have a new guy Naresh Yallapragada and we are planning to get a branch in Manchester too.It seems that I have to go globetrotting. These seven months have extremely stressful due to the varying conditions in India. For those who would like to invest in India be warned that it is the Worlds most difficult to place to start a business. Generating Venture Capital in India is quite difficult and increasingly the countries diversity and Venture Capitalist’ attitude of not trusting anyone makes things difficult.
Things go at a snail’ pace in India. For starting my corporation in the United States it took one day. In India eventhough it has been 60 days the local corporation work has not fructified. Its always that there is red tapism and its quite difficult to get work done with the Mandarins at Delhi. At last this week I started Investing. In India if anyone wants to invest he needs to have a PAN Card(Card Issued by Government of India).Getting this is not a problem and CA(CPA in America) can get you that. But getting a Demat Account will be quite a pain.As always in India everything needs rigorous paperwork and interestingly I had quite a time to convince the demat guy that Driving License in US are issued in US for one Year and as the date in the expiry date on my driving license crossed the date I was opening the account by two days and he rejected my NRI Demat account application.Anyway atlast I got my Indian Demat account in 30 days but for opening trading it took me 30 days flat.In India if office work to be done there are many rules and regulations which give chance for Government Employees to ask for bribes. There are certain States like Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka which use e-commerce but most the times Indians are quite averse to e-commerce.I was asking one of my friends about why he doenst buy his computers online. He answered me that he would like to see it,touch it and feel it and then buy a product which gives him satisfaction.Similarly the most beautiful thing about India happens to eat with hands. There is something in tactile sensation and most of the Indians appreciate food better when eaten with hands unlike United States where people would seldom buy Coke from Dispensing Machines. Most of the times Interpersonal interaction and Social life is almost non-existent. Drive-In Banks are comfortable and time saving but going to a bank, talking with your banker, talking to the gas station owner who fills up your gas,the art of going into a Kirana(Departmental Store) where Indians discuss local gossip is not there in US where everything is mechanical. That is the reason why people feel so lonely in United States.Family Bonds,Parent-Children Relationship and Social Gatherings are most the times rare in typical American Life.
Interestingly India is becoming more like America and America like India.I was so surprised that people were appreciating Indian Candy Floss Love stories.Bollywood which was always thought to be a cheap imitation of Hollywood is showing promise and today Hollywood is becoming more like Bollywood. Indian Versions of Close Encounters of Third Kind,The Hulk,The Time Machine are making more money.Similarly Hollywood has become quite Bollywoodish. Today,I had the good fortune of watching Ghost Rider which made me feel like I am watching a South Indian Rajinikanth Movie. Last week I went to watch The Hulk, another piece of Crap aA Special Effects Extravaganza with incredible scenes where the Hulk lifts up Hummers and rolls down Helicopters and I was feeling that Hollywood has become more Bollywoodish. Van Helsing, The Mummy,Titanic,Anaconda and you name it I am getting to see more Bollywood in Hollywood.Van Helsing was a huge flop in the United States. But the Hindi,Telugu and Tamil Dubbed Versions raked up the moolah.Suprisingly Manoj Night Syamalan’ movies inject the much needed Americanism into Hollywood and its quite suprising in a country of 300 Million People it needed a Brown to infuse what America mostly needed into Hollywood. There are exceptions.Contemporary America needs more movies likeBrokeback Mountain and Beautiful Mind. Beautiful Mind is an indepth study of a guy who has Alzheimers disease which is one of the most common Neurlogical disorder in Amerian senior citizens. Brokeback Mountain explores a realtionship between two guys.America (forget the eastern and western coasts) still remains fundamentally Christian and in the Post Bush period where a new America is being born. Gay/Lesbian marriages, Scientific Research without Religious Considerations,A Secular Non Racist atmosphere are things which would make a America and World a better place.
The Biggest problem with the World is that America is the biggest earner and spender. It was recently that President George Bush has commented that the Gas prices have gone up as the consumption of Gas has increased in China and India. Oil Prices have crossed $160 a barrel and Indian Government is almost on a verge of collapse. Inflation in India has touched 12% and Indian Government needs to sign up the much maligned over American Nuclear which will get $20 Billion worth of power. And but as it always happens in India. One of my American Friend asked me how come in American Universities there are so many Indians but how come in India they cant make it big.I quipped that it true with India that when Indians come up they themselves try to pull them down and that’s why most of times after facing so much below the belt completion most of Indians excel in American Universities.A kick on the Rear to Mr.Prakash Karat, the last remnants of Indian Communists who need to be kept as a specimens in Mumbai’ Kala Ghoda Museum in a few years.
Next article would be about Dentists and Ego.
